On tour now!

The Black Legacy Project is a musical celebration of Black history to advance racial solidarity, equity, and belonging.

The Black LP is a national project produced by Music in Common - a nonprofit that strengthens, empowers, and connects communities through the universal language - in partnership with community stakeholders at the local level. From September 2021 through June 2023, it launched in seven communities across the U.S. including the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, Atlanta, Los Angeles, the Mississippi Delta, Denver, the Arkansas Ozarks, and Boise. In each community, the project brought together Black and White artists and artists of ALL backgrounds to record present day interpretations of songs central to the Black American experience and compose originals relevant to the pressing calls for change of our time. Community roundtable discussions helped inform how these songs were interpreted and written. A docuseries is in production with a new episode from each community to which the Black Legacy Project traveled. In total, 24 songs have been recorded for the project and the first Black LP album will be released on August 18, 2023. A touring band will hit the road beginning in September to bring the Black LP Experience to communities nationwide.

The Black LP Experience is an interactive tour of full length Black LP concerts culling from the 24 songs recorded for the project. In addition to this powerful and inspiring musical celebration, the tour includes film screenings of the Black Legacy Project docuseries, community conversations, roundtable discussions, and school programs. Email us to learn how you can bring the Black LP Experience to your community.
